The Ponte Vecchio ("Old Bridge") is a medival stone bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy. The bridge first appears in a document of 996. There are shops built along it, most of them are jewelers, art dealers and souvenir sellers.
It has always hosted shops and merchants who displayed their goods on tables before their premises. It is said that the economic concept of bankruptcy originated here: when a money-changer could not pay his debts, the table on which he sold his wares (the "banco") was physically broken ("rotto") by soldiers, and this practice was called "bancorotto" (broken table; possibly it can come from "banca rotta" which means "broken bank"). Not having a table anymore, the merchant was not able to sell anything

The double helix staircase, also in the Pio-Clementine Museum (Vatican Museum), and commonly referred to as the "Bramante Staircase", was designed by Giuseppe Momo in 1932 and was inspired by the original Bramante Staircase. This staircase is a double helix, having two staircases allowing people to ascend without meeting people descending; as with the original the main purpose being to allow uninterrupted traffic in each direction.
It encircles the outer wall of a stairwell of approximately fifteen meters wide and with a clear space at the centre. The balustrade around the ramp is of ornately worked metal. A canopy located above provides the necessary light to illuminate the stairs. The staircase is located at the end of the museum visit and all visitors leave by this route
